Prayon expands its expertise in water treatment with the acquisition of Solvay's Capterall® activity

Engis, January 18th, 2022 – Solvay and Prayon announce today the completion of Prayon’s acquisition of Capterall®, an innovative and sustainable solution for water treatment and more specifically for the reduction of pollutants in wastewater.

Developed by Solvay, the patented phosphate based Capterall® solution aims to meet a major environmental challenge: capturing a very wide range of micropollutants such as heavy metals contained in industrial wastewater. It thus enables industrial companies to comply with ever more stringent environmental regulations.

Having received the ‘Efficient Solution’ label by the Solar Impulse Foundation, this solution is fully in line with Prayon’s mission to enrich everyday life through phosphorus chemistry. It is efficient and reduces freshwater consumption by recycling it in industrial processes.

“With this new acquisition, Prayon, which is currently active in water treatment, is further strengthening its range of solutions for its industrial customers. Water is a precious resource that must be preserved. This transaction illustrates our commitment to making a difference through our technology to protect the environment and support our customers by offering them an innovative solution to improve water quality and meet the current and future environmental challenges they face,” says Alain Germeau, VP Development Projects, Prayon.

“The choice of Prayon as the new owner of this innovation was obvious. With over 130 years’ experience, Prayon is a world leader in phosphorus chemistry and has the main raw material, purified phosphoric acid; its extensive sales network will be an advantage in further deploying this original solution,” adds Karine Cavalier, New Business Development and R&I Leader, Solvay.

Prayon and Solvay are committed to a smooth transition to ensure continued access to Capterall® technology and to deliver excellence in service to their customers. This collaborative agreement between these two Belgian-based companies will allow for the further development of this technology and create added value for many players in the water chain.
